Love and Immortality

I thought I could have them

If I followed the queue

If I strapped myself in

And endured the ride

Or I could win them

At the canopied booth

With a little skill and a lot of luck

I wish I'd known

You were on the midway

Happily handing them out

Like free balloons

Facebook

Finally

After thirty years

I am now friends with the cheerleaders

The band geek

Is talking about his kids

To the guy who spent all his time under cars

The social misfits

Are talking to each other

About the businesses they own

I have yet to see anyone from the football team

Tumbling

Stone on stone

Among the fine grit – wearing down

The rough edges

Smooth, burnished

Polishing

The recipe calls for time

And friction

Like ideas

Discipline

Creates a poem

Within a tome

That doesn't roam

Too far from home

It's chromosome -

A metronome

That always rhymes...
